Officers from the New Canaan Police Department were dispatched near the intersection of Main Street and Harrison Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, where there was a report of a motorist who was operating her vehicle erratically.
Police were able to track down the driver - Stamford resident Maria Carmela Morales-Gramajo - on New Norwalk Road, and a traffic stop was initiated. During the subsequent stop, the officer said that upon speaking with the driver, he detected “signs of impairment.”
Morales-Gramajo failed multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, at which point she was arrested and taken into custody. At New Canaan Police Headquarters, Morales-Gramajo refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test and she was charged with failure to maintain her lane and illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a misdemeanor.
Following processing, Morales-Gramajo was released on $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Canaan Justice Court on June 26 to answer the charge.
